OFFICE OF

Geoffrey Charleton Adams,

NUMISMATIST.

Cable Addressi LAMA.
Dear Sir:

NEW YORK, U. S. A.

The offering this month seems to me to be about as diversified
a lot of coins etc., as could be found in a day’s journey or a
trip through an old curiosity shop in some European Capital.
It is thrown together, hodge podge, helter skelter, with no
attempt at classification or arrangement, and thereby hangs a
tale. The Numismatic Crank whose collection it is, said to me
one day. “Adams, I rather like your catalogue, it is gotten up
neatly; but why this eternal grouping of countries and kinds by
themselves? Why not jumble them all together? It may be inter-
esting to the person who collects onlyr one special line, to find them
all nicely huddled together; he can sit comfortably down and bid
and bid himself to death, while other people who have no interest in
his line, must sit and twiddle their thumbs while the coins are
disposed of.” “But” said I, “people whose collections I sell, wont
have it any other way, so what am I to do?” “Find some
who don’t,” said my friend, sharply. “Where is he?” said I.
“I am that man,” said he; so to cut a long story
short, here is offered the collection of Mr. N. Crank, jumbled
toget er just as he wanted it to be. knowing these facts, don’t be
surprised if you should find the Goddess of Liberty hugging
close to a Chinese Dragon or an elephant feeding on a“haymarked”
German Eagle. It behooves therefore that everybody should
study the catalogue carefully, for sandwiched between two medio -
era tics, yon may find an aristocracy. At any rate it is all nice
stuff and well worthy your attention, whether you collect the
coins of “Far Cathay” or those of our own glorious country.

Very truly

GEOFFREY CHARLTOfN ADAMS.

PROPERTY' OF JAMES GRAiNT.

The complete set of the tokens issued by Thomas Church of
Ottawa. These have been fully described by A. R. Frey in
“The Numismatist” of Nov. 1903. The dies do not exist,
having been destroyed by fire. The numbers as given by
Frey are adopted ; all are in an uncirculated condition. We
believe this set of tokens in its eutiret)r, to be the rarest ever
offered at Public Sale.

Frey No. 1. White Metal, 10 struck
No. 2. White Metal, 8 struck
